Planning a fall trip to see the leaves changing, searching for a spot to pick out a pumpkin, looking for some fall decor for your home, or wanting to get scared out of your mind? Marshall County has the perfect places for you to celebrate fall. 

 

Fall Events

September 25: Fall Festival at Grand Vue Park. Fall crafts, vendor sale, games & inflatables for kids, live music, and a Grand Gourd Toss!! This is a FREE event to attend. Food, drinks and ice cream will be available for purchase. 10am-7pm.

September 25: Hearsemania & Moundsville Fall Bizarre at the West Virginia Penitentiary. Retired and active hearses gather for the 3rd Annual Hearsemania Festival. A day full of oddities, the paranormal, and day tours of the West Virginia Penitentiary and a trip through the Dungeon of Horrors haunted house. Food trucks & other vendors will be on site! 11am-6pm

October 17-31: ScareCrow Lane at the Cockayne Farmstead 

Local businesses put together scarecrows and spooky displays for the Halloween season at the Cockayne Farmstead. The community and visitors then vote for the best display. October 30: Children’s Halloween Movie at the Strand Theatre. Movie TBA. Movie begins at 2pm, doors open at 1:30pm.

Pumpkins & Fall Décor

E. Black & Son’s Nursery – 3988 Fairmont Pike, Wheeling, WV 26003

A fun stop for the family to pick out a pumpkin, or grab some corn stalks for your scarecrow. This family owned business has been serving Marshall County families for their holiday needs for generations. The Marshall County Co-Op – 400 11th St, Moundsville, WV 26041

Pumpkins, corn stalks, hay bails, mums and more outdoor goodies to decorate for Fall can be found at the Marshall County Co-Op. The Co-Op has been providing for Marshall County’s outdoor and farm supply needs for almost 100 years. Country Lane Crafts – 318 Jefferson Ave, Moundsville, WV 26041

This unique store features antiques made new! Country Lane Crafts features seasonal unique items, with a twist. Most items are recycled antiques like buckets, shovels, oil cans, barn wood, mason jars, and so much more that have been hand cut or decorated with fun seasonal designs. This store has limited hours, open the second Friday & Saturday of each month, but as the holidays get closer they frequently have bonus weekend openings as well. Wood Scraps & Other Cute Things – 320 Jefferson Ave, Moundsville, WV 26041

A shop filled with local vendors crafts & artwork! Tons of West Virginia made products & fun holiday decorations at this cute little shop on Jefferson Avenue. Wood Scraps is open from 10am-4pm on Tuesday-Friday & 10am-3pm on Saturday. Check them out on Facebook for a sneak-peak of their inventory.

Let’s Get Spooky

The Dungeon of Horrors at the WV Penitentiary – 818 Jefferson Ave, Moundsville, WV 26041

An award winning haunted house built inside a haunted former prison, what could be spookier than that? The Dungeon of Horrors theme for 2021 is ‘998 Ways to Die’. Find them all and make it out, before you succumb to the same fate! Haunted house is open weekends from September 24 through Halloween. The North Walk at the WV Penitentiary – 818 Jefferson Ave, Moundsville WV 26041

A flashlight tour through some of the most paranormally active areas of the prison! The North Walk will give some history and a lot of scary stories about this old prison. Tickets for the North Walk can be purchased online at wvpentours.com! Entry begins at 6pm.

The Archive of the Afterlife: “A Paranormal Museum” – 86 Railroad Street, Cameron WV 26033

One of the largest collections of paranormal relics, and gruesome artifacts in the United States. This museum is not for the faint of heart, with paranormal activity occurring daily at the site. Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Strand Theatre – 811 5th Street, Moundsville WV 26041

On October 30th, the Strand Theatre presents the cult classic film “Rocky Horror Picture Show”. This isn’t your ordinary movie showing though! Dress to the nine’s in your creepy garb and purchase a prop kit with your admission to be part of the action during the movie. Doors open at 6:30pm, film begins at 7pm.
