Summer Saturdays at the Cockayne Farmstead
June 12, 2021
This summer, stop by the Cockayne Farmstead on Saturdays to experience fun activities and demonstrations that can be enjoyed by the whole family!
Ever wanted to write with a quill pen? Learn to play croquet? Dip your own candles? Weave a blanket? Sew a pincushion? Each Saturday through the summer we will be offering different activities for the whole family to learn a new heritage skill from days gone by!
The historic farmhouse, built in 1850 and last renovated about 1900, will be open on Saturdays for tours beginning in May. Tours will be available on Saturdays from 10am to 3pm. In addition to taking a tour, each Saturday will offer different activities that children and adults can participate in. Some weeks will feature costumed living history interpreters, traditional artisans demonstrating heritage crafts, old-fashioned games and toys for families to try, or live music played on traditional instruments.
Tours do not require a reservation, and are free of charge, though donations to help support the project are appreciated. Activities will take place outdoors, weather permitting. Each Saturday’s activities will be shared on the Cockayne Farmstead Facebook page or can be found out by calling the Farmstead at (304) 845-1411.
