The Former West Virginia Penitentiary was one of the bloodiest prisons in America. Whitegate Cemetery

596 Toms Run Rd, Moundsville, WV 26041 – Open year round

Aptly called “The Tombs of the Unclaimed Prisoners”. This is the final resting place for dozens of prisoners from the West Virginia Penitentiary who had no claims to their remains after their passing. Please note: Cemetery closes at dusk. Do not trespass on private property. Water crossing *on foot* to get into the cemetery.
