Grave Creek Mound Archaeological Complex: 801 Jefferson Ave, Moundsville, WV. Learn about West Virginia’s early days at this pre-historic site. A self-guided museum with archaeological info from around the state. After you’ve visited the museum hike to the top of the mound to view the beautiful fall foliage surrounding Moundsville.

Prabhupada’s Palace of Gold: 3759 McCreary’s Ridge Rd, Moundsville, WV. A sacred place filled with ornate architecture and natural beauty! Enjoy a stroll around the Palace’s gardens, lotus pond & swan lake, and acres of fall foliage. Tours inside the Palace are limited after Nov. 1, please call 304-843-1600.

Get Spooked

Archive of the Afterlife: 86 Railroad St, Cameron, WV. One of the largest collections or haunted relics & paranormal artifacts in the country! Come learn some dark history at this wonderful museum. Tours are by appointment, please call 304-231-7134 to arrange your tour. 

Dungeon of Horrors & North Walk at the West Virginia Penitentiary: 811 Jefferson Ave, Moundsville, WV. This award winning haunted house is sure to give you a really good scare this Halloween season! Scarecrow Lane at the Cockayne Farmstead: 1105 Wheeling Ave, Glen Dale, WV. Local businesses decorate a hoard of scarecrows along the walkway to the historic farmhouse. Local residents & visitors then vote for their favorites throughout the Halloween season!

Fall Events in Moundsville

WWII History Day at the Cockayne Farmstead- September 17 from 10am-5pm. Guest speakers, Veteran’s telling their stories, live music from Eli Lambie, local food by Chimney Corner Cafe & The Guest House, Rosie-the-Riveter look-a-like contest, farmhouse tours, and so much more. This event is 3-years in the making, so you won’t want to miss it! 

Festival of Colors at the Palace of Gold- September 17 from 12pm-5pm. This early fall event is a celebration of life and the changing of the seasons. Enjoy live music, Indian cuisine, yoga, and a beautiful color throw! Get tickets at festivalofcolors.us

Fossil Day at the Grave Creek Mound Archaeological Complex– September 17 from 12pm-4pm. A fun day of fossil identification, museum hunts, special exhibits, guest speakers, and more family friendly activities! FREE & open to the public. 

Grand Vue Park Car Show- September 17 from 11am-3pm. Tons of cars, raffles & door prizes, grab food at the Vue Bar & Grill and ice cream at Flurry’s Ice Cream Shop, and more. $10 registration, includes entry into a giveaway for a 1-bedroom Treetop Villa stay!

Archaeology Day at the Grave Creek Mound Archaeological Complex: October 1 from 12pm-4pm. Come celebrate International Archaeology Month with Behind-the-scenes tours, flint knapping, atlatl demonstrations, museum scavenger hunt, and a lecture. FREE event & open to the public!

Children’s Halloween Movie at the Strand Theatre: October 29 from 1pm-3pm. Craft at 1pm, movie begins at 2pm. Free admission!
