The Historic Beckley Grist Mill

May 26, 2016 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

The Historic Beckley Grist Mill in Raleigh County, WV

During the early 1830s, Alfred Beckley inherited thousands of acres of wilderness land from his father, John Beckley, in western Virginia. Beckley built his family home and a grist mill near the cross-roads of the historic Giles, Fayette and Kanawha and Logan Turnpikes, the modern-day location of the City of Beckley. In 2014 a historical and archaeological study of the mill site demonstrated that it is eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. This presentation reviews the study’s findings and the other historical research and discusses the mill’s nomination to the National Register of Historic Places.
