Christmas at Cockayne
December 17 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
On Monday, December 17, Cockayne Farmstead in Glen Dale will welcome the Christmas season with cheerful caroling and candlelight Christmas tours of the historic Cockayne house.
Festivities will begin at 6 pm, when all are invited to gather at the Cockayne Farmstead Visitor Center before embarking on a short trek through the neighborhood to sing some traditional Christmas carols with guitar accompaniment. No singing experience is required!
Afterwards, from 7-9pm, special Christmas-themed tours will be given through the farmhouse. This year, the house has been decorated to reflect three eras of Christmas traditions: the early Victorian era; the Gilded Age of the 1890s; and the wartime celebrations of the early 1940s. Come learn about historic Christmas traditions, experience the beautiful decorations from Christmases past, and even meet a Victorian Father Christmas!
Guests are welcome to arrive at 6pm to go caroling, or to stop by and tour the farmstead anytime between 7 and 9 pm, with tours running approximately every twenty minutes, as needed. Following their tour, visitors can step next door to the Visitor Center for traditional refreshments, including cookies and wassail. A Christmas craft for children will also be available. The event is free and all are invited to celebrate with us!
